Dragon Boat Atlanta is a group of breast cancer survivors and supporters who want to increase awareness of breast cancer, to share the belief that there is quality of life after breast cancer, and that exercise plays an important role in helping to achieve the highest quality of life.
What is a Dragon Boat? The dragon boat itself is a fiberglass or teak hull boat measuring 39' to 48' feet long by 4' wide by 18" deep. Teams of 20 paddlers sit 2 abreast with a steer person in the back and a drummer in the front. The race boats are designed as replicas of Chinese dragon boats used more than 2000 years ago. Dragon Boat Racing is the fastest growing water sport activity in the world.
Teams are being formed now for 2008 Dragon Boat Teams. You do not have to be athletic to paddle. This is a team sport and it is the power of the team paddling together that moves the boat. We have members as young as 15 and as old as 74; mothers, fathers, grandmothers, daughters...everyone is welcome.
